4th of July at Merritt

This year we went with the Forster Family to Merritt Reservoir to celebrate the 4th of July. We camped out, fished and relaxed out on the lake for three nights.

THE 5 AM FISHING TOURNAMENT: The first night the boys flipped a coin to pick teams for their fishing tournament. Todd and Michael vs. Adam and Brent. The rules were no adult fish would count until one of the boys caught and boated a legal fish. Then the boat with the highest legal fish weight would win. They were so excited.  Helen and I slept in that morning and when the boys came back for breakfast we were told that they tied due to both little boys falling asleep through the tournament. Neither boy caught a fish so it was an official draw.  I am still laughing about how cute the boys were as sleepy little co anglers!

We took a short hike to this waterfall then decided to walk under it.

The four adults taught the boys to water ski.
They were scared to death when they started but by day two they were pros.

The evening of the 4th we drove to Valentine, NE to watch our first demolition derby and a fireworks show.
It was so fun and exciting, nothing like we had ever seen before.

This is my favorite picture of the trip. Michael is waving, skiing one handed and all of us are so excited and proud of him.  Todd was driving around in his bass boat taking pictures and caught this one!
