Blessed with A Big Bull 2013

Here is a picture of Todd with his 6x6 bull elk.  DIY back country archery elk hunt with success.  A dream of Todd's for over 5 years and all the hard work finally paid off. Over 80 miles hiked in the last 3 week and lots of Mountain House meals eaten, this elk season has come to an end!

Bull taken at 21 yards.

Thanks to Pete Forster for all the help getting it done this year and for getting to experience this hunt with Todd.  Mules and good friends are amazing!

Double lung shot, bull went about 100 yards.

Todd after his approximately 9 mile hike out of the back country with his bull.  I have never seen him so happy!

With camp at 10,500 feet the weather can make for some interesting stuff in September.  This was a hail storm that only lasted for a brief moment.

Meat and Head at camp, getting ready to load it all up and head back to the trail head.

Todd and Jeff talking and looking over the bull at the trail head.  Jeff and I met Todd and Pete at the trail head to pick up the elk to take it home. Lots of good meat for this year for sure!

It has been great getting to hunt with my husband and make such good memories.

Another dream of Todd's is to make it into the Pope and Young bow hunting record books.  60 days of dry down time is needed before it can be officially scored.

Second Week in Elk Camp

We had another wonderful three days of elk hunting.  We set up a game cam and it was only set up for a couple of days now.  Three bulls were pictured so Todd was excited to say the least!  We forgot to bring an extra SD card so next time I will get the pictures downloaded.  The weather was hot during the day and it rained in the evening.  The pictures below do not show the miles we hiked or the countless elk we meet, but they do show some of  the silly memories. Todd had a shot at a cow at 8 yards but passed her up.  This year its Horns or Bust!

Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water... Which one is JACK and which one is JILL??

Opening Weekend of Elk Hunting with more to come. Stay tuned!!!

Todd and I enjoyed our first weekend of Elk hunting. On Friday, we hiked up to camp which is 8 miles. It was so hot when we finally got there that we went for a cold creek bath, had dinner and went to bed. Saturday we hunted up in a high alpine bowl where we usually find elk early season.  Just as expected we glassed and found four bull elk together. We put a good stalk on them and closed the distance to within 150 yards when the wind changed so we had to hold back.  Sunday we got into another great area and made a couple good stalks. We got in really close on one bull and boy did he stink!  He managed to slip us, but we know where he lives so we set up a game cam to try and pattern him.  Pre rut summer heat sucks, bring on the cold lets get this rut started!
