Third Elk Trip of 2012

The trees were changing colors and the air was a little cooler when we hiked in for our third elk trip of the year. We made it into camp just in time for a quick night hunt, dinner and bed.

Thursday morning Todd and I had a chat at breakfast about how frustrated he was that the elk were not doing what they normally do. I asked him if he had prayed about it? He said "Well yeah, I prayed for our safety and for us to have a good hunt and get an elk if God willed". I told him " That's great but have you told God how you would like it to happen? "No" he said. I reminded Todd that these are God's creatures and God's will is usually better than any plan we can make, but it never hurts to ask. So Todd sat and described his perfect hunt:

Todd wanted to see the elk before it saw him. He wanted the elk to walk behind a tree in order for him to draw his bow. The elk would stand slightly broadside or quartering. The kill shot would be at 20 yards and the recovery would be at 40 yards.

Well as we all know God is GOOD!!!

He delivered the exact hunt Todd asked for. Amen!!!!  As Jeff said, "This is just a reminder to us that God wants to be apart of every part of our lives, even elk hunts.

I took this picture right after Todd shot his elk at 20 yards.

On Saturday we packed up camp and ended the season with a record breaking time on our hike out. We are all in shape now. Big thanks to Pete and Geoff for helping us pack everything out. What a blessing!!!

a good job Kiss!
We had an amazing elk season. Each trip got better and better. I learned so much from Jeff and Todd. Todd is a great teacher, fantastic hunter and an amazing husband. I can't wait for next year when I get my chance to kill an elk with my bow.

Another end to a great adventure!

Second Elk Trip 2012

The second trip of 2012 was better then the first. The elk were still not in season but we still had some  great hunts.  As Todd says, " With elk hunting the stars need to a line in order to kill one." I found that to be truth. I learned a little more each trip about elk.

We got some great pictures of the hunting trio.

First Elk Trip of 2012

The first elk trip of the 2012 was a blast!  It was hot and the elk were not in season yet, but we still had a lot of fun. We walked a total of 23 miles in 2.5 days. Todd, Jeff and I were hurting on Monday, but we saw some great country.
